Director of Educational Initiatives and History Teacher David Miller came to Deerfield Academy 13 years ago. During his time here, Mr. Miller taught AP Seminar and was deeply involved in the Center for Service and Global Citizenship (CSGC).

Associate Director of the CSGC Beatriz Giraldo described him as “a visionary [and] an innovator.” She added, “He is the person who founded the CSGC when basically no other independent school in the U.S. has a program or an office like the one that we do...[He] has tried really hard to maintain what the heart of the CSGC is, which is basically working for the students and making sure that the student’s experience is unique and valuable.”

Mr. Miller’s “best part of the day” and passion for teaching are evident in the classroom. AP Seminar student Anne Kelly ’27 described Mr. Miller as “a very energetic guy. You can tell he really enjoys what he does and really enjoys teaching...I think he has a really unique way of showing how much he cares, and I’ll miss that.”

As he concludes his career at Deerfield, Mr. Miller reminisces how unique Deerfield is as a place for him. “This is where I met my wife and had our kids, so there’s a lot of elements of community both personally and professionally,” he explained.

Mr. Miller will be joining the leadership team at St. Anne’s-Bel- field School in Charlottesville, Virginia. However, he says he will “[be] physically here for another year...[and] will still be able to cheer the current juniors across the stage in graduation next year.”
