The ’24-25 school year will be Associate Dean of Faculty and History teacher Mr. Abe Wehmiller’s (colloquially known to students as Mr. Weh) last year at Deerfield Academy. As the dorm resident of O’Byrne Curtis, he expressed that this opportunity was something he never expected he was going to love so much.

Having worked for more than 20 years in education, Mr. Weh has taught all over the United States at day schools. Working at a boarding school was something he never planned to do when he first moved to the Pioneer Valley with his wife for her job as a Smith College admissions officer.

In his time at Deerfield, Mr. Weh has served as an advisor for the Deerfield Black Students’ Alliance and has become the ‘master of dorm feeds’ with his meatball subs. The favorite part of his job is being the varsity boys basketball timekeeper.

He inspires to love the students more than anything at our school and to live up to his testament to his commitment for service to the community. Mr. Weh reflected on how he did not expect when he took this job, he would be figuring out the logistics of grilling “100 hot dogs at night” for a dorm feed or teaching Jamie Weymouth ’23 how to tie a bow tie for his tuxedo on a Saturday Casino Night.

Looking to the future, Mr. Weh will be moving to Amherst and taking off work to spend more time with his daughter.
