Andy Newlon has been teaching at Deerfield Academy for three years. Throughout her time, she taught AP Statistics, Data Science, and Algebra 2, was the faculty advisor for Deerfield’s trivia team, and coached Girls Thirds Volleyball. Ms. Newlon said that her favorite Deerfield memory was the first school meeting she attended where she saw an a cappella performance and “saw how involved kids at this school were in the arts.” She was moved by how “people just got up on stage and were themselves”.” Alongside the vibrant students, she was extremely grateful for the faculty that provided welcoming and support.
Zach Li ’25, a student in her AP Statistics class said, “Ms. Newlon is one of the most caring and passionate teachers I know.” Kayleen Cho ’27 , a member of the girls volleyball team, said Ms. Newlon never failed to show up in green and white for a game and would come to practice with a scoreboard every day to keep track of even matches they played amongst themselves. Having had Ms. Newlon as a tablehead, Cho said she “never made the table awkward” by actively starting conversations and engaging everyone at every meal. Throughout her time, Ms. Newlon contributed both to the academic endeavors of vast number of students across her classes and in the communal and athletic components of the community as well. As she approaches her farewell, she leaves this final remark: “remember that this community is what we make it.”
