Is A Hug Too Intimate?

The other day, while I was hugging my boyfriend goodnight, a security guard drove by. He looked at us, turned away and drove on.

But after a few seconds, he decided to drive back and tell us that we were being “inappropriate.” We were told to go somewhere else private.

First, it was in the middle of study hours, so no one was around (except for the security guard). I’d understand his actions if there were a ton of kids and adults around, and we were making them feel uncomfortable. But there weren’t.

Second, apparently it’s now forbidden for students of opposite genders to engage in contact in public because, God forbid, a young child will walk by at 9:15 p.m., see us hug and be totally scarred for life… Um, what?!

Although I was a little embarrassed at the time, I later became enraged. Why is Deerfield so sensitive about sexual intimacy? We’re not allowed to hug in public? Why, because hugging leads to sex?

Yes, we have a gender problem, maybe because boys and girls are scared of coming in contact with each other!

Personally, I think the sexual intimacy policy is ridiculous here, and that it should not be mentioned in the student handbook.
